The allure of conversation pits & retro revivals
I recently stumbled upon a floor plan straight out of the disco era, and guess what stole the spotlight? A 'grooving area,' or as folks from the 70s would call it, a conversation pit.
Naturally, I spiralled down the rabbit hole of CGI builds showcasing retro floor plans. Lo and behold, someone brought Don Draper's Mad Men abode back to life – complete with that signature conversation pit. By the way, if you haven't dived into Mad Men yet, do yourself a favour; it's hands down the best series ever. And if you ever want to see any genuine props from the film set, swing by the Fifth House office sometime.
But my journey into the nostalgia zone didn't end there. I've been hooked on the creative escapades of lettering artist Jessica Hische. Her canvas? A gem of California Modernism in the Berkeley Hills, rocking none other than a conversation pit.
There's a certain magic in these sunken seating areas that time can't erase. They're not just quirky designs; they're portals to an era where socialising had its own stylish hangout. Don Draper would probably raise a single malt to that.
As I soak up the throwback vibes of these conversation pits, it's crystal clear – retro design is making a fierce comeback. Whether I'm virtually chilling in theMad Men universe or witnessing California Modernism getting a modern facelift, these pits aren't just architectural quirks – they're the starting point for conversations that echo across the decades. Cheers to getting cozy in style!
